Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix due to technical rule violations. Their Ferrari cars, which initially finished fifth and sixth, failed post-race inspections by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer. Alpine's Pierre Gasly, who finished 11th, was also disqualified. Leclerc and Gasly's cars were underweight, while Hamilton's car had excessive skid-plank wear.
The disqualifications mean Ferrari loses 18 points in the constructors' championship. Gasly misses a chance to enter the top 10, as he would have moved up if not for the disqualification. The revised standings now see Haas driver Esteban Ocon promoted to fifth place from seventh.

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli moves up to sixth place, while Williams' Alex Albon and Haas' Oliver Bearman advance to seventh and eighth respectively. Lance Stroll and Carlos Sainz now receive points for finishing ninth and tenth, despite originally placing 12th and 13th.
McLaren dominated the race with Oscar Piastri leading Lando Norris in a one-two finish. George Russell secured third place for Mercedes. Max Verstappen recovered from a poor start to finish fourth ahead of the Ferraris before their disqualification.
The floor of Hamilton's car was found with excessive rear skid-plank wear, making it thinner than required after the race. This could provide a performance advantage. Hamilton faced a similar issue at the United States Grand Prix in 2023 when driving for Mercedes.
Following the technical delegate's report, Hamilton and a team representative met with race stewards. A document released after the hearing stated: "The plank assembly of Car 44 was measured and found to be 8.6mm (LHS), 8.6mm (car centerline) and 8.5mm (RHS). This is below the minimum thickness of 9mm specified under Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations."
The team confirmed these measurements were accurate and acknowledged no mitigating circumstances existed; it was an error by the team. The Stewards determined that Article 3.5.9 of the FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations had been breached, warranting disqualification as standard penalty.
The updated top ten for the Chinese Grand Prix is as follows:
| 1. | Oscar Piastri (McLaren) |
| 2. | Lando Norris (McLaren) |
| 3. | George Russell (Mercedes) |
| 4. | Max Verstappen (Red Bull) |
| 5. | Esteban Ocon (Haas) |
| 6. | Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) |
| 7. | Alex Albon (Williams) |
| 8. | Oliver Bearman (Haas) |
| 9. | Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) |
| 10. | Carlos Sainz (Williams) |
The current standings show Lando Norris leading with 44 points among drivers, followed by Max Verstappen with 36 points, and George Russell with 35 points. In constructors' standings, McLaren leads with 78 points, followed by Mercedes at 57 points, and Red Bull at 36 points.
This incident highlights how crucial adherence to technical regulations is in Formula One racing. Teams must ensure compliance to avoid penalties that can significantly impact championship standings.
