Los Angeles group wants to renovate Memorial Coliseum
LOS ANGELES, Feb 24 (Reuters) A group seeking to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to Los Angeles has proposed a 112 million dollar temporary renovation of the city's Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The design calls for more than 200 luxury suites to be suspended over the existing rim of the structure, which cannot be permanently altered because of the 84-year-old coliseum's status as a historic landmark, the paper said yesterday.
The renovation by the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games is part of the Los Angeles bid to become the US candidate to host the 2016 Games.
An 11-member US Olympic Committee will visit the city in the coming weeks before making its nomination in April.
