Lucknow to host Sunfeast Northern India Junior golf championship

Lucknow, July 2 (UNI) As many as 128 of the country's top junior golfers will be seen in action at the Sunfeast Northern India Junior/Sub Junior Golf Championship which commences at the par-72 Mauribagh Environmental Park and Training Area (MEPTA) golf course here tomorrow.

The four-day tournament, which forms the fifth leg on the Sunfeast Junior and Sub Junior Golf Tour, is being held under the aegis of the Indian Golf Union.

The tournament will have competitions in four different age categories in junior's section led by India's most promising teenager Jaipur's Amanjyot Singh who won the senior 'A' category title at the Sunfeast Southern India Junior/Sub-Junior golf championship in Coimbatore last month.

Amanjyot is expected to face stiff competition from All India Junior champion Rashid Khan, Abhijeet Chadha and Saurab Bahaduri.

In the 'B' category, Kapurthala's Ashbeer Saini who finished runners-up at the Sunfeast Southern India Junior/Sub Junior Golf Championship, Kolkata's Rommel Majumdar, Bangalore's Khalin Joshi and Chandigarh's Raghav Bhandari will be the golfers to watch out.

In the 'C' category, Sunfeast Southern India Junior champion Rahul Ravi will battle it out with Akash Srinivasan, Abhishek Kuhar and Vashishta Pawar.

In the junior most 'D' category which tees-off on Wednesday, Delhi's Vidit Singh (winner of Sunfeast Southern India Junior Golf Championship), Piyush Sangwan (winner of the Eagleton Junior/Sub Junior Golf Championship) and Prakhar Asawa will battle it out for top honours.

Category A will include golfers in the age group of 15-17 years while category B will feature those in the 13-14 age bracket.

Categories C and D will feature golfers in the 11-12 and 10 and below age players respectively.
