CWG Qualification Platform In Ludhiana Sets New Route For Indian Athletes
The Ludhiana leg of the Indian Athletics Series on June 13 in Punjab will serve as a Glasgow Commonwealth Games qualification trial. AFI Selection Committee Chairman Adille Sumariwalla said the meet offers another chance to reach the federation’s set marks.
Sumariwalla said the AFI is giving eligible athletes a fresh shot at the CWG standards in their events. Several athletes had narrowly missed the AFI norms at the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition, held over four days in Ranchi.

He said athletes told officials they could not give their best in Ranchi. They cited poor local weather, especially on the final day. After talks, AFI Selection Committee members agreed to provide another platform to chase the qualification mark in Ludhiana.
AFI conditions for Commonwealth Games selection
Results from Ludhiana will count for CWG selection only for athletes who also competed in the four-day domestic meet in Ranchi. Those who already met CWG qualification norms in Ranchi remain qualified, but they may still enter the Ludhiana competition if they wish.
The AFI guidelines for CWG selection, announced earlier by Sumariwalla, will stay unchanged. The extra chance in Ludhiana applies only in events where athletes were close to the required marks in Ranchi, as per the AFI Selection Committee Chairman.
