Ludhiana w'lifters and Mukatsar archers excel in Rural Games

Bathinda, Oct 24 (UNI) Ludhiana and Mukatsar were running neck-to-neck on the second day of the three-day Punjab State Rural Games for Girls Under-16 in progress at Sports Stadium, here today.

The Ludhiana girls toped in weightlifting whereas Mukatsar hit the bull's eye in archery.

The Ludhiana lifters won the team title by logging 16 points.

Jalandhar were runners-up with 13 points. Mukatsar claimed bronze with 10 points.

The Mukatsar archers logged 1254 points to emerge winners while Ferozpur received the runners-up trophy with 1129 points. Faridkot had to remain satisfied with the third position as they secured 197 points.

In track and field events, Bhumika Thakur of Gurdaspur won gold in long jump with a leap of 5.06 meters, Kulwinder Kaur of Sangrur received silver with 4.96 meters, Bhupinder Kaur of Faridkot got bronze with a clearance of 4.50 meters.

Jaspal Kaur of Tarn Taran displayed explosive power to win gold in shot put as she threw the iron ball to a distance of 8.70 meters.

Kamaljit of Gurdaspur got silver with a throw of 7.89 meters.

Gagandeep Kaur of Bathinda finished third with 7.69 meters.
