Luka Doncic hit a dramatic buzzer-beater to seal a 127-125 overtime win for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Denver Nuggets, prompting LeBron James to label the guard a generational talent after another standout all-round display in the NBA.
The victory extended the Lakers’ strong run, as the team now has five straight wins and eight victories in the last nine games, lifting the franchise to third place in the Western Conference, half a game ahead of the Houston Rockets.

Doncic again drove the Lakers offence, closing the game with 30 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds, recording an eighth triple-double this season and continuing a scoring surge that has underpinned the team’s recent winning streak against Western Conference opponents.
The decisive moment arrived with just 0.5 seconds left in overtime, when Doncic created space near the baseline and drained a fall-away jumper over tight defence, leaving the Nuggets no time to respond and sparking celebrations on the Lakers bench inside the arena.
James, who played 40 minutes and finished with 17 points, highlighted Doncic’s late heroics afterwards, stating: "Just a big-time shot by a f****** generational player, James said of Doncic. He's just a big-time player, man. We wanted the last shot. We wanted to put the ball in our guy's hands. It's going to be just the first of many game winners like that for him in a Lakers uniform."
The team performance around Doncic also stood out, as Austin Reaves delivered a team-high 32 points, while Marcus Smart contributed 21 points and five steals, with both players making key plays at both ends of the floor throughout the tight contest.
Reaves was central to forcing overtime when the Lakers trailed late in regulation, intentionally missing a free-throw, grabbing the rebound and quickly hitting a floater with 1.9 seconds on the clock, drawing the teams level and keeping the home side alive against Denver.
Lakers coach JJ Redick reflected on the group’s form and chemistry after the latest narrow success, saying: "Is 'coalesce' a word? Is that the right word? For coming together? Lakers coach JJ Redick asked. I think it feels like we're coalescing right now in a really nice way. Still got a long way to go, still got a long way to go, but certainly optimistic with how we handled this stretch of games. It's big time."
The result against Denver keeps momentum with the Lakers as the regular season continues, with Doncic’s late basket, Reaves’ crucial play in regulation and strong defensive contributions from Smart providing further evidence of a team finding rhythm while securing important wins in the Western Conference race.
