Luke Donald Named Europe Captain For A Third Consecutive Ryder Cup At Adare Manor 2027

Luke Donald has been confirmed as Team Europe captain for a third consecutive Ryder Cup, with the 2027 event at Adare Manor, Ireland. He seeks a third straight victory, continuing Europe’s recent success and history-making leadership, while emphasising the journey and team environment behind sustained success.

Luke Donald is confirmed as captain of Team Europe for a third straight Ryder Cup, with the 2027 match set for Adare Manor in Ireland. Donald already led Europe to victories over the United States in 2023 and 2025, including the first away success since the 2012 "Miracle at Medinah".

Those wins made Donald only the second European captain to claim consecutive Ryder Cups. Donald now has the chance to become the first Europe skipper to lift the trophy three times in succession, with the 2027 contest also marking the 100th anniversary of the Ryder Cup competition.

Luke Donald to captain 2027 Ryder Cup

Donald has never experienced defeat in the Ryder Cup, either playing or leading. As a player, Donald featured on four winning European teams, in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012. Donald then extended that perfect streak as captain, overseeing victories in Rome in 2023 and at Bethpage Black last year.

The 2023 match in Rome finished 16.5-11.5 to Europe, restoring confidence after the 2021 loss at Whistling Straits. At Bethpage Black last year, Team Europe built a record lead over the first two days. The visitors then closed out a 15-13 success, which ensured the Ryder Cup trophy stayed with Europe.

Speaking about the emotional impact of the past two events, Donald said: "The last two Ryder Cups have meant a lot to me and my family, Donald said. I didn't imagine this third time would come. Celebrating on that Sunday night in New York after a pressure-packed week in a tough environment, I thought maybe my job was done. But maybe there is a little more story to tell. This Ryder Cup captaincy journey has given me so much focus, so much purpose, and it is something I don't take for granted. It's a real privilege, and I am certainly looking forward to another home Ryder Cup."

Donald also stressed the importance of legacy across Ryder Cup Europe. "History is obviously important to me, Donald added. As a team, as Ryder Cup Europe, we all play for history. We talk about it a lot, about the guys who paved the way for us and the responsibility we have to inspire next generations. I don't think I have ever thought about history through a personal lens. I just try to enjoy the journey and the day-to-day work to create an environment that gives the players the opportunity for success. That is what I focus on."

The chance to lead Europe again at Adare Manor gives Donald continuity with a group that has responded to that environment. With a perfect record as player and captain, and the centenary Ryder Cup on Irish soil, Donald enters 2027 aiming to protect Europe’s momentum while adding another chapter to the team’s history.
