The Minnesota Lynx have strengthened their roster by acquiring DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. This trade involved sending Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, and a 2027 second-round pick to Dallas. The Lynx made this decision following an injury to MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier, who hurt her right ankle during a recent game against the Las Vegas Aces.
Carrington has shown impressive skills in the WNBA. She was named the league's Most Improved Player in 2024 while playing for the Connecticut Sun. During that season, she achieved career highs with averages of 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.56 steals per game. This year with Dallas, she averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over 20 games.

Despite her strong start with the Wings, Carrington's role diminished over recent weeks. Initially starting in the first 12 games of the season, she later came off the bench in seven of the last eight games. Her scoring average dropped to 7.0 points during this period.
The Lynx are currently leading the WNBA standings with a record of 24-5, maintaining a six-game lead over the New York Liberty in second place. In contrast, the Wings are positioned at 11th place with an 8-21 record.
Diamond Miller had limited playtime for Minnesota this season, averaging just 4.1 points in under ten minutes per game. Despite being selected second overall by Minnesota in the draft and making it to the All-Rookie team in 2023, her contribution was minimal.
Karlie Samuelson has been out since June due to surgery on her left foot that ended her season prematurely. Before her injury, she averaged modest numbers: 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists across 16 games.
This trade aims to bolster Minnesota's lineup as they contend for top honours this season despite recent setbacks due to injuries among key players like Collier.
