Maharashtra and Karnataka women enter last eight

Jaipur, Dec 29 (UNI) Downed in the first set, Maharashtra displayed a brilliant all round performance to beat Punjab by 3-1 and entered last eight in women's 56th Senior National Volleyball Championship at the SMS Indoor hall here this evening.

In an another women's tie Karnataka made short work of Delhi beating them in only an hour in straight sets 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals. The women's quarter-final line up is now as follows:- Railways V/s Maharashtra, Tamilnadu v/s Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal v/s Chandigarh, Kerela v/s Karnataka.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Pradesh dashed down the hopes of the hosts Rajasthan when they recorded a 3-1 victory over them in a keenly contested encounter lasting for 125 minutes in the play off tie. The winners thus qualified for the men's pre-quarter-finals where they meet Karnataka.

Similarly, Chhattisgarh outplayed Uttar Pradesh 3-0 and entered the pre-quarter-finals where they will take on Kerela.

The quarter-finals line up in men's section-Railways v/s Kerela/Chhattisgarh, Tamilnadu v/s Punjab, Uttranchal v/s Haryana, Services v/s Karnataka/Andhra Pradesh.

In the women play off matches Karnataka trounced Rajasthan by 3-1 while Punjab defeated Bihar by an identical score.
