Maharashtra boys win overall championship

Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) Maharashtra boys and Orissa girls won the team championships of the just concluded 29th Junior National Rowing events on the waters of river Gomti here today.

Maharashtra boys today, by winning all the three golds at stake in singles skull, double skulls and men's coxless -4, were declared as the overall champions while Orissa girls claimed the runners up slot. Orissa girls by claiming two golds remained on the top among girls' teams. On the last day of the championship Maharashtra boys and Orissa girls claimed 3 and two golds respectively.

On the last day Yasin Khan of Maharashtra bagged two golds out of three by winning single and double skulls.

Manipur girls opened their account today claiming the gold in women singles skulls when Chhoba Devi clocked the distance in 03 minutes and 48.33 seconds time. In this tough competition Keral's D Vergheese claimed silver while bronze went to Orrisa's M Topo.

Orissa girls P Minz and Pritima Puhana in coxless pairs lifted the gold (03 M. 35.90 Sec), D Devi (Manipur) and Sani Mol (Kerala) won silver and bronze respectively.

Chief guest of the closing ceremony chief secretary UP government Atul Gupta gave away prizes and announced that state government would extend its full support in developing standard of rowing events in the state.
