Maharastra's Gauri and Karan bag gold, Reeta's first gold

Margao, Jun 23 (UNI) Maharastra kept their reputation intact as they snatched five gold -- one each by Gauri Desai and Karan Jainsing and three others -- in the medley relay out of the 12 events in swimming on the penultimate day of the four-day sub-junior National Acquatic Championship in progress in Goa.

While Karnataka and Bengal had to be content with two gold each, Kerala, Manipur and Gujarat bagged one gold each.

On the third day today, Maharastra is leading with 16 gold, their arch rival Karnataka is in the second place with 9 gold and Uttar Pradesh is third with 5 gold.

No new meet records were established today.

All the five diving events of the day were cancelled due to bad weather and heavy rains.

In swimming, Maharastra's Guari Desai claimed gold with a timing of 00:40:19 in the 50 mts breaststroke girls group III and Karan Jaising with a timing of 00:32:22 in the 50 mts Freestyle boys group IV. Maharstra's other three golds came from 4x50 mt medley boys group IV with a timing of 02:29:67, Girls group IV with a timing of 02:39:46 and girls group III with a timing of 02:24;61.

Gold winners for Karnataka were Prajwal K S with a timing of 01:11:72 in 100 mts butterfly boys group III and other gold winner was Pratima Kollali with a timing of 00:31:35 in 50 mts freestyle girls group III.

Bengal's Subhadeep Das claimed gold with a timing of 00:30:43 in the 50 mts freestyle boys group III and second gold in the 4x50 mts medley boys group III with a timing of 02:16:25 The day saw Reeta Francis clinching the first gold for Kerala with a timing of 00:33:55 in the 50 mt freestyle girls group IV.

Vandita Dhariyal of Gujarat with a timing of 01:12:19 in the 100 mts butterfly girls group III and L Mahesh of Manpur with a timing of 00:36:44 in 50 mts breaststroke boys group III also bagged gold medals.
