Srinagar, July 10 : A 16-member mountaineering expedition team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was flagged off from here to scale the Nun peak at 7140 mt in Zanskar valley of Leh district.

The team, flagged off by Additional Director General of Police (Armed) P S Gill here, was scheduled to scale the peak by September this year.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gill said it was a matter of honour for the state that two mountaineers from the police constable Sajad Hyder and Ram Singh were selected for attending a selection camp at Gangtok in Sikkim for scaling the Mount Everest.

He said the expedition, being organised in collaboration with the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering in Pahalgam, was initially scheduled for last year, but had to be called off due to bad weather in the area.

The police personnel were being imparted training in mountaineering at the Institute for the last three years.

The expedition team members are Lt Col A S Shekhawat, Dr N S Bhatial, Reyaz Ahmed, A R Padder, Karan Bahadur, D S Rawat, Pinki Singh, Khem Raj, Sonam Tsering, Gulzar Ahmad, Ghulam Mohammad, Showkat Hussain, Falail Singh, Muzaffar Ahmad, Mohammad Rafiq, Altaf Ahmad, Sajad Hussain, Deep Singh, Riyaz Ahmed, Mohammad Saleem, Mohammad Ashraf, Satinder Singh, Mohammad Ashraf and Ravi Kumar.
