By Staff

Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Dr Mahinder Singh Malik, and Punjab Sports Director Padam Shri Pargat Singh today congratulated Sushil Kumar for winning bronze medal in 66kg free style category in the Olympic Games at Beijing today.

Dr Malik, who is also general secretary of the Haryana Olympic Association, on behalf of Haryana Olympic Association and that of entire sports fraternity conveyed heartiest congratulations to the wrestler for winning the medal.

Sushil is the second Indian wrestler to claim bronze medal in the Olympic Games. The first bronze medal in wrestling was won by the K D Jhadhav in Helsinki Olympics in 1952.

''The credit for Sushil's victory goes to his sustained hardwork.

He has been maintaining winning spree since 2002. Sushil has won medals in Commonwealth and Asian Games. He has been practising under Mahabali Satpal of Delhi in the Chhatrapati Stadium in Delhi,'' Dr Malik said.

Dr Malik, who was former Haryana DGP, has requested the Central Government to honour Sushil Kumar and his coach for invaluable services rendered by Satpal.

''Both should be given suitable cash awards and meaningful service benefits,'' he said.

Dr Malik said that Rajiv Tomar (freestyle, 120 kg) category is also a medal prospect.

Congratulating Sushil Kumar for adding another medal to the Indian kitty in Beijing, three-time hockey Olympian Pargat Singh said ''the Delhi wrestler has done India proud by winning bronze medal, second in the Indian wrestling history.'' UNI XC PS AB AS1754
