Manipur consolidates lead
Guwahati, Feb 11 (UNI) Manipur seem all set to stamp their domination over the 33rd National Games as they today consolidated their position atop the medal tally with 17 Gold.
Delhi also reaped rich harvest today courtesy swimming events in which the Goldfish from Capital, Richa Mishra, bagged two more while Sandeep Sejwal sank 200m breast stroke meet record to top the podium. Swimmers pushed up Delhi's tally to eight Gold with five of them coming from the pool, two from wushu and one from wrestling.
Yet another meet record was created when Rohat Havaldar of Karnataka sliced away 15 secs off the previous record in 1500m free style with a timing of 16:24:54.
The contact sports reaped the maximum medals for Manipur with wushu fetching them 6 Gold and tawekondo another four. Manipur also pocketed all the five Gold of the fencing that was decided today.
Hosts Asom are in surprising third position with five Gold, as many Silver and 12 Bronze with javelin thrower Prakash Jyoti Gogoi giving the host team the first Gold from the Athletic event.
However the medal position is likely to see a dramatic change from tomorrow as the athletic events have started where traditional powerhouse of Kerala and other Southern states are likely to dominate.
