Manipur eves retains title

Puducherry, Jan 20 (UNI) Manipur retained the title whipping Tamil Nadu 5-0 in the fifth Junior National Girls Football Tournament here today.

After some midfield exchanges, Parameswari Devi found the net in the ninth minute to open the account for Manipur. She managed to swell the lead at the 22nd minute capitalising on a defence lapse.

Tamil Nadu players let their shoulders drop after two goals within a span of 22 minutes, and offered the least resistance while Pempa Devi scored in the 25th minute to critend the lead to 3-0 at the breather.

Pempa Devi again found the net in the 40th minute and Parmeswari Devi completed the tally by scoring in the 60th minute.

Puducherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi, in the presence of Education Minister M O H F Shajahan and Tamil Nadu Football Association President C R Viswanathan gave away the trophy and prizes.
