Manipur players excel in wushu nationals

Chandigarh, May 27 (UNI) Manipur has won three gold medals on the second day of the Seventh IndianOil Junior National Wushu Championship at the Sector 10 Skating Hall here tonight.

A Sanathoibi Chanu gave Manipur the first gold by finishing at the top in the Nanquan for girls. Lashimit Lepcha of Sikkam got a silver medal.

Thoibi Devi of Manipur emerged winner in the Changquan for girls. Manipur also got a silver through Kh Bidyashwari Chanu.

Manipur's third gold medal was claimed by L Jhaljit Singh as he got the top posiiton in Tajiquan for boys.

Amit and Ravi Pal, both of Chandigarh entered the second round in Sanshou competitions. In the below 45 kg, Amit defeated Fourwell Khonmalai of Meghalaya while Ravi Pal of Chandigarh-B defeated Rajnith of Lakshadeep in the same weight.

Meanwhile, the response this time was overwhelming. The participants and officials claimed that the interest shown by the participants was due to the promotion of wushu to the top priority from general category by the Union Sports Ministry.
