Lahore, Feb 17 (ANI): The Indian subcontinent is still too dangerous a region for hosting the Cricket World Cup 2011, according to former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani.

In an interview to Voice of America from Dubai, Mani said his contention has along been that the 2011 event should have been swapped with the World Cup 2015 in Australia.

"The subcontinent region these days is a dangerous, unstable and problematic. But due to India's financial muscle and leverage, they will keep pushing for hosting the World Cup and foreign teams will continue to ignore until any serious major security incident is not occurred," he added.

Commenting on the recent bomb blast in Pune, Mani said a lot of security related incidents were taking place in India, but the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in October this year, would be a real test.

"In case of any major security incident during the Commonwealth Games, there will be no World Cup 2011 in the sub-continent as athletes wont be risking their lives," Mani maintained. (ANI)
