Paralympic gold medallist shooter Manish Narwal secured the silver medal in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 final event on Friday, August 30 in the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024.
Manish shot a total of 234.9 to settle for the second rank in the final while South Korea's Jeongdu Jo bagged the gold medal with 237.4. China's Chao Yang settled for the bronze medal with a total score of 214.3.

Notably, Manish won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021 in the mixed 50m pistol SH1 category with a Paralympic record of 218.2. Manish Narwal’s silver was India’s fourth medal in the ongoing Paris Paralympics.
Earlier in the qualification round, Manish secured the fifth rank with a total of 565 - 12X (X - Inner ring or bull's eye). The top eight shooters from the qualification round made the cut for the final.
Moving into the details of the final, Manish started off the first round on a disappointing note with a score of 48.7 to secure the sixth rank. However, he made a strong comeback in the second round of the first stage to accumulate a total of 97.2.
With the second stage being the elimination, Manish upped the ante, consistently scoring 10s to move up the chart. By the end of the second stage, Narwal shot a total of 234.9 to secure the silver medal with South Korea’s Jeongdu topping by 237.4.
So far, Indian para-athletes have secured four medals, including one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. Reigning Paralympic champion rifle shooter Avani Lekhara defended her gold medal earlier in the day.

Hailing from Ballabgarh, Haryana, Manish was born with a deformity in his right hand. However, he dreamt big as a young boy, taking up shooting as his pet sport.
At the Para Shooting World Cup 2021, Manish created history with a world record in the P4 Mixed 50M Pistol SH1 event, securing a gold medal. At the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, he was part of the mixed P4 - 50m Pistol SH1 category, bagging a gold medal.
At the Para Shooting World Championships 2022, he secured another gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. With this effort, he secured a spot in the Paris Paralympics 2024. Later, he secured a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games 2023.
Subsequently, Manish bagged two silvers at the 2024 WSPS Para Shooting World Cup in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 individual and team events.
