Manu Bhaker Sends Heartfelt Recovery Message to Neeraj Chopra After Injury-Plagued Season

By MyKhel Staff

Neeraj Chopra concluded his 2024 season with a second-place finish at the Brussels Diamond League, missing the top spot by just 1 centimeter. The Olympic gold medalist threw 87.86 meters but was unable to take first place as he missed the first place in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Remarkably, Neeraj competed with a fractured left hand, which he revealed in an emotional social media post following the event. In his post, Neeraj reflected on the challenges he faced throughout the year, acknowledging that the season didn't go as planned but was filled with important lessons.

"As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I've learned through the year - about improvement, setbacks, mentality, and more," he wrote. He revealed that an injury during practice had fractured the fourth metacarpal in his left hand just days before the competition.

"It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels," Neeraj added. The perseverance of the javelin thrower did not go unnoticed. Indian shooter and close friend Manu Bhaker, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, was quick to offer her support.

"Congratulations @Neeraj_chopra1 on a fantastic season in 2024. Wishing you a speedy recovery and more success in the coming years," Bhaker posted in response to Neeraj's message. Neeraj, despite his incredible achievements, remains focused on his goal of crossing the elusive 90-meter mark, a milestone he had hoped to reach this season.

His best throw to date is 89.45 meters, achieved at the Paris Olympics, which earned him a silver medal. However, injury setbacks prevented him from surpassing the 90-meter barrier this year. In his heartfelt post, Neeraj also thanked his supporters and vowed to come back stronger next year.

"This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. While I couldn't meet my own expectations, I feel this was a season in which I learned a lot. I am now determined to return, fully fit and ready to go," Neeraj concluded. He promised his fans, "2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025."
