Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida’s Top 3 Performances In ONE Championship

Marcus Almeida has been rapidly rising up the heavyweight ranks since arriving at ONE Championship in 2021. "Buchecha" has wasted no time in making himself known to his fellow competitors, and his upcoming clash at ONE Fight Night 13 could propel him into World Title contention.

The Brazilian star meets "Reug Reug" Oumar Kane on Saturday, 5 August, in Bangkok, Thailand's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in what will be his largest assignment to date. But in the lead-up to the contest, Almeida has demonstrated sheer dominance in ONE.

And at 4-0, there's no doubt he'll be looking to continue the string of victories next month. With that said, let's look at the top three performances that have made Almeida a star in ONE Championship.

Kirill Grishenko - ONE on Prime Video 1 (Fastest Win): Since debuting in ONE, Almeida's fight-closing sequences have become faster and faster. And in his last outing against Kirill Grishenko, the 13-time BJJ World Champion took home his quickest win yet.

Almeida met former ONE Interim Heavyweight World Title challenger Kirill Grishenko in August 2022. This was set to be the most notable test of his career so far. But in what's becoming typical fashion of the Brazilian, it didn't last long.

"Buchecha" peppered the Belarusian on the feet before quickly taking his man down. From there, Almeida wrenched on a heel hook. And just 1:04 into the first frame, Almeida tapped Grishenko to pass the test with flying colors.

Simon Carson - ONE 158: With two first-round submissions in the bag against Anderson Silva and Kang Ji Won to kick off his ONE tenure, it was clear that Almeida's grappling expertise was nothing to be taken lightly.

But at ONE 158 in June 2022, Almeida decided to show that he's not a one-trick pony. Submission may be his bread and butter. However, the Brazilian decided to showcase the firepower in his hands against Simon Carson.

The American Top Team product pressured his Australian adversary from the onset, before taking him down at the one-minute mark. After gaining top position, Almeida rained down with furious shots, forcing the referee to save Carson from further damage at 2:24 of the first round.

Anderson Silva - ONE: REVOLUTION: After cementing himself as an all-time great in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Almeida decided to move to mixed martial arts before signing with ONE. It was a transition that made for an exciting moment for combat sports fans around the world.

The Brazilian debuted in September 2021 at ONE: REVOLUTION. He fought fellow experienced countryman Anderson Silva to open up his account. Silva entered the more decorated striker, but it wouldn't be long until Almeida nullified Silva's punches.

In what comes in at Almeida's longest career performance at 2:55 of round one, "Buchecha" nonchalantly executed a tremendous north-south choke on Silva. With all the hype surrounding him, it was clear Almeida was here to stay. And his rise to ONE heavyweight stardom continues in August.
