Maruti Suzuki 'Desert Storm' gets underway
New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) As many as 61 participants are vying for top honours in the fifth Maruti Suzuki Rally Desert Storm which got underway here today.
The rally proceeded to Fatehgarh and from there it will head deeper into Rajasthan tomorrow for an action-packed four days in the extreme sandy conditions in multiple sections, traversing gravel and dry wilderness. Covering a distance of over 1300 Kms, the rally will navigate through Bikaner, Jaiselmer, Pushkar, Sambhar before concluding in Jaipur on February 18.
This year the rally will be much tougher and exciting with the 13 competitive sections covering over 400 kms. Besides 30 professional and 30 amateur car rallyists, 22 biker teams are also participating.
With total prize money of Rs 6.8 lacs, 'Desert Storm' is the largest prized money event in the Indian National Motorsport calendar this year.
