Dallas Mavericks Dismiss General Manager Nico Harrison Following Disappointing Start To Season

The Dallas Mavericks have terminated GM Nico Harrison's contract after a challenging start to the season. Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will serve as co-interim GMs as the team seeks improvement.

Dallas Mavericks supporters have seen a significant change in their team's management. The team has dismissed general manager Nico Harrison, who faced criticism after a major trade involving the franchise's star player. Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have been appointed as co-interim general managers to fill the vacancy.

The decision to let go of Harrison follows a disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, with the Mavericks holding a 3-8 record. Harrison, hired in 2021, faced scrutiny after trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. This move came shortly after Dončić led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals.

Following the trade for Anthony Davis, Dallas experienced setbacks. Kyrie Irving suffered an ACL tear, and Davis struggled with an adductor strain. These injuries contributed to a challenging season, ending with a 39-43 record and a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament.

The Mavericks' fortunes seemed to improve when they won the draft lottery. They selected Cooper Flagg as the top prospect with their No. 1 pick, bringing renewed optimism among fans. However, Flagg's rookie season has been inconsistent so far.

Injuries continue to plague the team, with Irving still recovering from his ACL injury and Davis facing another setback. As a result, Dallas is struggling offensively, ranking last in scoring at 107.2 points per game and three-point shooting at 29.5 percent.

The team's poor performance has intensified calls from fans for Harrison's dismissal. The organisation eventually decided it was time for a change in leadership.

Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont expressed commitment to building a championship-level team that satisfies players, partners, and fans alike. The appointment of Finley and Riccardi aims to steer the team towards this goal while addressing current challenges.
