The Dallas Mavericks are grappling with a severe injury crisis, as highlighted by Jason Kidd. After their latest 125-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns at the American Airlines Center, Kidd remarked, "You've got to laugh or this will drive you crazy." This defeat marked their fifth consecutive loss and seventh in eight games. The team faced the game with only nine players available.
During the match, three more players sustained injuries. Kessler Edwards and Dwight Powell collided while chasing a rebound, resulting in Powell's exit from the game. Brandon Williams also left due to hamstring issues. Dante Exum and Caleb Martin were restricted in playing time due to recent returns from injuries, leaving Kidd without substitution options late in the game.

Kidd expressed his disbelief at the situation: "I've never seen this. I've never been in a game where we could not take someone out to rest them because we had no one to put in." He noted that typically there are players available on the bench, but many were either injured or receiving treatment.
The team's inactive list already included Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, Jaden Hardy, Kyrie Irving, Kai Jones, Dereck Lively II, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and P.J. Washington. Despite having an open roster spot, salary cap constraints prevent them from signing new players for reinforcement.
NBA regulations require teams to have at least eight active players for games. Powell is hopeful of returning for their upcoming matches against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday and Wednesday. His return would be crucial for maintaining an adequate roster size.
Kidd humorously pointed out financial constraints by saying, "We can't sign anybody... me and Duds cost too much," referring to assistant coach Jared Dudley. Despite these challenges, he emphasised the need to keep moving forward.
