Max Verstappen Supports Liam Lawson's Social Media Critique Of Red Bull Ahead Of Japanese Grand Prix

Max Verstappen shows support for Liam Lawson's social media criticism regarding Red Bull's handling of his demotion. As the Japanese Grand Prix approaches, Verstappen emphasises the need for team improvement.

Max Verstappen recently expressed his feelings about Red Bull's decision to replace Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda after just two races. Verstappen showed support for a social media post by former Formula One driver Giedo van der Garde, which criticised the team's handling of the situation. "I liked the comment, the text, so I guess that speaks for itself, right," Verstappen said, indicating his agreement with the criticism.

Verstappen believes Red Bull should focus on improving their car, which he considers the fourth-best in Formula One this season. He stated, "[We have to] take a good look at ourselves and just keep on working and keep on improving the car." Despite being second in the driver's standings, eight points behind McLaren's Lando Norris, Verstappen sees room for improvement.

Red Bull currently ranks third in the team standings after two races. Verstappen aims to become the first driver in F1 history to win four consecutive Japanese Grands Prix. His new teammate Tsunoda is eager to make a strong impression in his home race. Tsunoda will equal Takuma Sato's record of 90 F1 races this week.

Verstappen Backs Lawson's Social Media Critique

Tsunoda expressed his anticipation about partnering with Verstappen: "It's a bit unknown until I hit the track with him, but I'm sure it will be challenging, that's for sure." He acknowledged Verstappen as "the greatest driver in the world currently" and plans to learn from him while leveraging his five years of experience with Red Bull.

Verstappen is determined to avoid starting a season without a pole position or victory across the first three races since 2020. He is currently on a streak of 15 races without securing pole position. Meanwhile, Red Bull needs one more fastest lap to reach 100 in F1 history.

Lando Norris is set to make his 131st grand prix appearance with McLaren, equalling Mika Hakkinen's record for third-most appearances with the team. Norris is also close to leading 400 laps in his F1 career. If he leads for 49 laps here, he will surpass several drivers in all-time laps led standings.

Championship Standings Overview

The current championship standings show Lando Norris leading with 44 points, followed by Max Verstappen at 36 points. George Russell holds third place with 35 points. In the constructors' standings, McLaren leads with 78 points, while Mercedes follows with 57 points and Red Bull sits at third place with 36 points.

As Formula One heads into another exciting race weekend, all eyes are on how these developments will unfold on the track. The competition remains fierce as teams strive for improvements and drivers aim for personal milestones.
