Rory McIlroy is optimistic about maintaining his lead over Tyrrell Hatton to secure the Race to Dubai title. As he enters the final round of the DP World Tour Championship, McIlroy shares the lead. On Saturday, at Jumeirah Golf Estates, he scored a four-under 68, tying with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen at 13 under. This puts him in a strong position for a Dubai double.

Hatton remains McIlroy's main competitor for the Race to Dubai crown. To surpass McIlroy, Hatton needs to win on Sunday and hope that McIlroy finishes outside the top eight. Currently, Hatton is tied for third at 12 under after a third-round score of 67. He shares this position with Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rasmus Hojgaard, Angel Ayora, and Laurie Canter.

McIlroy's performance has been impressive despite some challenges. He missed a short putt on the second hole and failed to capitalise on a birdie opportunity on the next. However, three birdies in the last five holes bolstered his confidence. Reflecting on his game, McIlroy said, "I let that affect me a little bit... But I stayed really patient and gave myself plenty of opportunities."

The Northern Irishman leads the Race to Dubai standings with 4,640.06 points. Hatton trails behind with 2,919.18 points as they entered this week's tournament. McIlroy remains focused on his own game rather than worrying about Hatton's performance.

The conditions during the tournament have been challenging but manageable for McIlroy. He expressed satisfaction with his ability to navigate these difficulties successfully. "It was nice to take advantage of those," he noted regarding his late-round birdies.

As McIlroy approaches the final round alongside Neergaard-Petersen, victory would place him among elite company with Sam Torrance and Miguel ngel Jimnez at 21 DP World Tour wins each. His focus remains on executing his game plan effectively around this familiar course.
