McLaren Confident Ahead Of Chinese Grand Prix As Lando Norris Leads The Charge

Lando Norris believes McLaren's car is well-prepared for the Chinese Grand Prix, following a strong performance in Australia. He aims to build on this success and lead the team towards significant achievements this season.

Lando Norris, after his victory in Australia, believes McLaren's car requires no modifications for the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. He confidently stated that their vehicle performed well within regulations and could be pushed further. Despite Red Bull's concerns over McLaren's flexible wings, Norris is unfazed by the stricter tests set for Shanghai. "We don't have to change anything. Ours was fine," he said.

Norris is not worried about leading the drivers' standings early in the season. He remarked, "It makes no difference to me at the minute." His focus remains on having a well-rounded car rather than chasing championship points immediately. This approach has helped him adapt and improve his driving skills over time.

McLaren Confident for Chinese Grand Prix

George Russell from Mercedes acknowledged McLaren's MCL39 as potentially one of the most dominant cars in recent years. He speculated that McLaren might surpass Red Bull's 2023 achievements when they won 21 out of 22 races. However, Russell doubts McLaren will win every race this year despite their significant advantage.

Lando Norris aims for his third consecutive F1 victory after winning in Abu Dhabi last year and Melbourne recently. Achieving this would place him alongside John Surtees and Tony Brooks with six career wins among British drivers. Meanwhile, George Russell capitalised on Oscar Piastri's difficulties in Australia to secure a podium finish.

This weekend marks the first sprint race of 2025, with McLaren having secured one-two finishes in both sprints last year. Norris won in Sao Paolo, while Oscar Piastri triumphed in Qatar. McLaren are also close to reaching a milestone of 7,000 points in F1 history, needing just 16 more points.

Mercedes stands on the brink of achieving their 300th podium finish if either Russell or Andrea Kimi Antonelli secures a top-three spot this week. Mercedes has historically performed well at the Chinese Grand Prix, winning five of the last seven races held there before COVID-19 interrupted events between 2020 and 2023.

Current Standings

The drivers' championship standings currently see Lando Norris leading with 25 points, followed by Max Verstappen with 18 points and George Russell with 15 points. In the constructors' championship, McLaren and Mercedes are tied at 27 points each, while Red Bull leads slightly with 28 points.

As anticipation builds for Sunday's race in Shanghai, all eyes are on whether McLaren can maintain their momentum and if Mercedes can achieve another podium milestone. The competition remains fierce as teams strive for supremacy early in the season.
