McLaren's Decision To Let Norris And Piastri Race For Title Supported By Verstappen Ahead Of Qatar GP

Max Verstappen praises McLaren for allowing Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to race without team orders for the Formula One title. This decision comes as both drivers remain in contention ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen has expressed his support for McLaren's decision to let Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri compete freely for the Formula One championship. Ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, McLaren confirmed they would not impose team orders on Norris and Piastri, both of whom still have a mathematical chance of winning the title. Verstappen, currently trailing Norris by 24 points, praised this approach.

Verstappen humorously remarked that if Red Bull had ever asked him to give his teammate an easy pass in such a situation, he would have refused. "No, it's perfect, I think! I think you can't do a better job than allowing them to race as well," he stated. He emphasised that real racers should always aim for victory rather than settling for a secondary role.

Verstappen Backs McLaren's Racing Decision

The recent disqualification of both Norris and Piastri from the Las Vegas Grand Prix allowed Verstappen to narrow the points gap. This development has set up an exciting conclusion to the season. Verstappen acknowledged that while he is tied with Piastri in points, much still needs to go right for him to clinch the championship.

McLaren's strategy reflects their commitment to fair competition between their drivers. Allowing Norris and Piastri to race without restrictions aligns with their belief in merit-based racing. This approach not only maintains the integrity of the sport but also enhances its excitement for fans worldwide.

Verstappen further commented on the importance of allowing drivers to compete freely: "So yeah, if you're a real winner and a racer as a driver, then you go for it." He believes that drivers should strive for victory regardless of their current standing in the championship.

The upcoming Qatar Grand Prix promises intense competition as both McLaren drivers aim for glory. With no team orders holding them back, Norris and Piastri are free to showcase their skills on track. This decision by McLaren could lead to thrilling races as they battle it out till the end of the season.
