Oscar Piastri expressed immense satisfaction with his McLaren after securing a fourth pole position of the 2025 Formula One season at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Australian driver outpaced his teammate Lando Norris by 0.209 seconds, despite trailing him for most of the qualifying session. Norris initially had a slight edge, being 0.017 seconds faster due to a minor slipstream advantage from Piastri at the start of his lap. However, Piastri's final lap was exceptional, widening the gap significantly.
Piastri has been on an impressive streak, scoring points in each of the last 34 Grands Prix. He recorded the largest margin for a pole-sitter this season. "Very happy. It's been a good weekend so far," Piastri remarked. "Didn't start off in the best way; we were struggling a little bit, but last night we found some pace and today the car is mega and feel I have been able to put in some good laps as well." Reflecting on past struggles, he added, "This was a pretty miserable scene 12 months ago, so to turn it around in the best way is a great result."

Max Verstappen from Red Bull secured third place, finishing 0.302 seconds behind Piastri. George Russell matched Verstappen's time but will start fourth as he completed his lap later. Lewis Hamilton managed to outperform his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc for only the second time this year, securing fifth place with Kimi Antonelli between them. Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar, and Fernando Alonso completed the top ten.
Verstappen initially struggled during his first run in the final session but improved significantly on his last lap. Spain holds special significance for Verstappen as he has achieved more podiums (eight) and victories (four) here than at any other race except four others where he shares this record. Despite not starting from pole position, he has won 32 times.
Verstappen acknowledged that McLaren had been superior throughout the weekend and admitted that catching them would be challenging on Sunday. "We were lacking all weekend compared to them [McLaren]. We executed well," Verstappen stated. "Third is where we more or less should be. It's fun. Around here, it's about squeezing everything out of the car." He remained determined to give his best effort on race day despite acknowledging McLaren's strength.
The Spanish Grand Prix promises an exciting contest as drivers prepare to push their limits on race day. With McLaren showing strong performance and Verstappen eager to challenge them, fans can expect an intense battle on Sunday.
The anticipation builds as teams gear up for what promises to be an exhilarating race in Spain. With fierce competition expected among top contenders like McLaren and Red Bull, spectators are set for an engaging spectacle on track this weekend.
