McLaren Dominates Hungarian Grand Prix Practice Sessions Despite Lando Norris' Discontent

Lando Norris topped both practice sessions at the Hungarian Grand Prix but felt his performance was messy. McLaren continues to showcase dominance in the season.

Lando Norris led the timesheets during Friday's practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix, yet he felt dissatisfied after a chaotic second session. Despite topping both sessions at the Hungaroring, Norris expressed disappointment with his performance. He was 0.291 seconds faster than McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who leads the Drivers' Championship. McLaren was the sole team to record times in the one-minute and 15-second range.

Norris, trailing Piastri by 16 points in the standings, acknowledged that practice provided insights into his car's weekend performance. "The car since the first lap has felt pretty good. All my laps have been decent," Norris stated. However, he admitted to making errors during FP2, including aborting a flying lap after a mistake at turn two and running wide when his front wheel touched the grass.

Norris Unhappy After McLaren's Strong Practice

McLaren's dominance this season is evident as they have secured victories in 10 of the 13 races so far. Their record for most wins in a single season is 15, achieved in 1998. They are close to matching their second-best total of wins from 1984. This year, McLaren has already achieved three consecutive one-two finishes in Austria, Great Britain, and Belgium.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc secured third place ahead of Aston Martin drivers Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Alonso missed the first session due to a back muscle issue from last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix and was replaced by Felipe Drugovich temporarily.

Max Verstappen finished only 14th and faced scrutiny from race stewards for discarding a towel from his cockpit while on track. The towel remained trackside until the session ended, leading to Red Bull receiving a warning for allowing an unsafe car condition.

McLaren aims to extend their streak of consecutive one-two finishes this year. They have achieved such a feat only once before in Formula One history, securing four consecutive one-twos between Mexico and France in 1998 with drivers Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.

Norris remains optimistic about understanding what he needs from his car despite acknowledging challenges ahead. "Good understanding. I know what I want from the car," he said, though he admitted it might be challenging to achieve those goals.

Despite some setbacks during practice sessions, Norris remains focused on refining his approach for upcoming races. His determination reflects McLaren's broader ambition to maintain their competitive edge throughout this season's remaining events.
