McLaren Drivers Lando Norris And Oscar Piastri Anticipate Fun Race Despite Leclerc's Pole Position In Hungary

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri of McLaren express optimism for the Hungarian Grand Prix despite finishing behind Charles Leclerc in qualifying. Both drivers aim to improve their positions during the race.

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri remained hopeful after qualifying behind Charles Leclerc at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Leclerc clinched pole position with a final lap that was 0.026 seconds faster than Piastri's best time. Norris will start third, trailing the Ferrari driver by 0.041 seconds. Despite this, McLaren has been in excellent form, achieving three consecutive one-two finishes in recent races.

The team has shown impressive performance, securing top positions in Austria, Great Britain, and Belgium. Historically, McLaren achieved four consecutive one-two finishes only once, from Mexico to France in 1988 with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. Currently, Piastri leads Norris by 16 points in the drivers' championship.

McLaren Drivers Look Forward to Exciting Race

Norris is eager to close the gap on his teammate in the title race. He expressed optimism about the upcoming race, stating, "I think it's going to be an exciting race and I would expect us to have a bit more pace than Charles." He acknowledged Leclerc's strong performance but remains focused on moving forward and winning.

Piastri aims to become the first McLaren driver since Mika Hakkinen to achieve two consecutive victories at the Hungaroring. After earning his maiden F1 win at this track last year, he is determined to perform well again. If he finishes in the top 10 on Sunday, he could join Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen as one of the few drivers to score points in 40 consecutive Grands Prix.

Piastri praised Leclerc for securing pole position but expects to recover from his wind-affected qualifying session. "Charles has been quick all weekend," said Piastri. He noted that changing wind conditions made it challenging during qualifying but remains optimistic about starting from second place.

Challenges Ahead

The unpredictable wind conditions during qualifying posed difficulties for both drivers. Piastri mentioned that the wind direction changed significantly from Q1 to Q3, affecting their performance. "It always sounds so pathetic blaming things on the wind," he admitted but explained how it impacted their laps.

Norris also commented on the challenging conditions: "The wind changed a lot, and it really seemed to punish us." Despite these challenges, both drivers are looking forward to an exciting race day with hopes of outperforming their rivals.

As they prepare for Sunday's race, McLaren remains confident in their ability to compete strongly against Ferrari and other teams. With both drivers eager for success, fans can anticipate an engaging battle on the track.
