By Staff

Kolkata, Nov 14 (UNI) An eightyfive-minute header from Vimal Parihar gave struggling Mohameddan Sporting vital three points in 1-0 win over bottom ranked Vasco SC (Goa) in the eighth round of Indian League at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here this evening.

The visitors' woe continued unabated as they plunged further with only two points despite having an edge in the first half.

The match, which never rose to any dizzy heights, saw Vimal Parihar making the difference just five minutes from the end.

Substitute frontliner Shovan Chakraborty did the trick in the final mintues, advancing a cross into the goalmouth and unmarked Parihar first ducked himself before nodding in jubilation to the local fans.

The goal was first for Parihar that earned him man-of-the-match.

Md Sporting in the previous game against the local challenge lost to United SC 0-1.

Coach Shabbir Ali said the win despite missing Theodore Sunday was really encouraging for the side, though relegation threat still persisted.

The win jacked up Md Sporting with total nine points, ahead of reigning champions eighth placed Dempo with eight points, who have game with United SC on November 16 in Margao.

The play was halted for about nine minutes in first half due to bursting of mosquito guns.

Refereee Dipak Singh of Delhi stopped play on the 34th minute when mid-field was covered with smoke as conservancy workers used smoke cannons at Gate No 4 to drive away swarming mosquitoes following reports of malaria and dengue in the city.

The play began nine minutes later when visibility returned in the flood light.
