George Russell expressed relief as Mercedes achieved a remarkable one-two finish at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Russell managed to fend off challenges from Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, along with his teammate Lewis Hamilton, to secure victory from pole position. Leading 49 out of 50 laps, this marked his third Formula 1 win. Previously, he led more laps only in Sao Paulo 2022 and Sakhir 2020.
Mercedes had faced difficulties at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, where Russell finished fourth and Hamilton tenth. The team was thrilled to regain their form in Nevada. "It's going to be a good party," said Russell. "I was planning on flying in a couple of hours but I'm definitely not getting on that flight. I'm going to enjoy this evening with all my team."

Russell started from pole for the third time in 2024, having previously failed to convert poles in Canada and Silverstone into wins. He described the weekend as a dream, expressing surprise at their speed and enjoying the moment. "To get the victory here, pole position and a dominant weekend, one-two with Lewis as well, we couldn't have chosen a better place to make this happen," he added.
The British driver noted that his previous pole positions were marred by unpredictable events like rain or red flags. This time, however, luck was on his side. "Luck has turned and I'm so happy right now," he stated.
Lewis Hamilton took time to congratulate Max Verstappen on securing his fourth world championship after finishing ahead of Lando Norris. "Firstly, congrats to Max winning the championship, still with several races to go," said Hamilton, who will join Ferrari in 2025.
If Hamilton had performed better in qualifying, he believed the race would have been easier for him. Despite starting tenth, he enjoyed the challenge and praised his team's efforts over the weekend.
"We don't know why we were quick this weekend but that's the best the car has ever felt," Hamilton commented. He expressed gratitude for being part of such progress and looked forward to future races with optimism.
With the championship decided, Hamilton is focused on fighting for top positions in upcoming races. "The championship's done, so now it's just all out, fight for the best positions possible," he concluded.
