George Russell, a driver for Mercedes, has revealed that the team plans to hold a significant meeting this week. The focus will be on addressing their recent lackluster performance. Initially, Russell appeared to be a strong contender for the Formula One drivers' championship, having secured four podium finishes in the first six races of the season.
Despite showing promise earlier in the year, Mercedes has struggled recently. In June, Russell clinched victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, and his teammate Kimi Antonelli also achieved his first podium finish there. However, since then, Russell hasn't finished in the top three, and Antonelli failed to complete two of the last three races.

Russell expressed disappointment with his fifth-place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. He crossed the line nearly 15 seconds behind Max Verstappen, who finished fourth. The 27-year-old is eager to understand why their performance has declined despite recent car upgrades.
"It was pretty underwhelming, to be honest," Russell told Sky Sports F1. "Because we tend to favour the cooler conditions. So we couldn't have really asked for better weather for us. But we've just had no pace recently."
The team is set to meet with designers and engineers to evaluate recent decisions that might have contributed to their decline. Russell hopes this meeting will lead to improvements before the upcoming race in Hungary.
Russell acknowledged that finishing fifth might not truly reflect their car's current capabilities but was pleased they maximized their potential under the circumstances. "P5 was probably flattering the real pace of the car," he noted.
The team made a strategic shift a few months ago which seems to have negatively impacted their performance. Understanding these changes and possibly reverting to earlier strategies could be key to regaining competitiveness.
