Oscar Piastri expanded his championship lead to 16 points with a commanding performance at the Miami Grand Prix. After finishing second to teammate Lando Norris in Saturday's sprint, the McLaren duo switched positions during the race, securing a perfect weekend for their team in the United States. Max Verstappen, who started on pole, couldn't match the pace of the McLarens and fell out of the top three.
The opening lap saw Verstappen and Norris reignite their title rivalry from last season. The Dutch driver locked up at the third corner as Norris attempted to overtake. However, Norris ran wide and dropped four places but quickly overtook Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. A collision between Jack Doohan and Liam Lawson at Turn 1 triggered a virtual safety car to clear debris.

After the lap 4 restart, McLaren asserted their dominance. Piastri soon began challenging Verstappen for the lead and successfully passed him at Turn 1 on lap 14 when Verstappen locked up. This battle allowed Norris to close in after swiftly passing other drivers. Initially, Norris overtook Verstappen at Turn 7 but had to give back the position before completing the move on the next lap.
Verstappen fell behind rapidly, losing nine seconds over nine laps before pitting during a virtual safety car period. This allowed Russell, who started on hard tyres, to pit for fresh ones and rejoin ahead of Verstappen. From lap 30 onwards, Piastri maintained his lead comfortably against Norris, who reduced the gap slightly but never posed a serious threat.
Piastri achieved his third consecutive victory, becoming only the 22nd driver in Formula One history to do so. He is also McLaren's first driver since Mika Hakkinen in 1997-98 to win three races in a row. Additionally, Piastri has now finished 34 consecutive races, matching Daniel Ricciardo's streak from Styria 2020 to Mexico City 2021 as the third-longest run in F1 history.
Russell secured his fourth podium of the season by finishing third, while Verstappen ended one place behind him. Alex Albon earned significant points for Williams by finishing fifth ahead of Kimi Antonelli. Ferrari faced another challenging day with Lewis Hamilton taking eighth after expressing frustration over a delayed swap with Charles Leclerc, who finished seventh.
McLaren extended their lead in the constructors' championship by winning five of the first six races this season. This matches their best-ever start from 1998. Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda completed the top ten finishers as Doohan, Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Oliver Bearman failed to finish.
