Michael Schumacher intends to race on in 2012

By Biswajeet Panda
Silverstone, Jul 8: There is no stopping for Formula One legend Michael Schumacher as he intends to carry on in the 2012 season as well. This despite being eclipsed by 24-year old compatriot Sebastian Vettel.

Speaking to reporters at the British Grand Prix on Jul 7, the seven-time world champion said, "I've always had the option to stop at any moment I wanted. I'm here for a fixed target, a three-year programme, and that is what it is."

In 2010, the German Formula One legend came out of his retirement to race for Mercedes in the Formula One circuits. The seven-times world champion had hung up his boots after having a phenomenal career with Ferrari.

However things are not bright for him in his second year with Mercedes. He is yet to have a podium finish in the 2011 season and is being clearly overshadowed by compatriot Sebastain Vettel.

Such has been Vettel's domination of the tracks that he is already being compared with Schumacher, who on his part is more than happy for the youngster's achievements.

He said, "I just have good feelings about this. Seeing him, how he has developed, it relates to the story of how I made Formula One popular in Germany, increasing the interest for the motor industry that has supported these young kids to get their chance."

And added, "He took his, has learned from everything he could, and it is great to watch that."
