Military Games curtain-raiser in MP
Bhopal, Mar 28 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar has distributed prizes to winners of a 'Run for Fun' marathon organised here by the three Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) Centre as a curtain-raiser to the 4th Military World Games scheduled for October in Secunderabad.
M Prajapati and Dheeraj Sharma yesterday bagged top spots in the 10-km and 5-km events respectively, an official release said.
''The Indian Army not only brings laurels to the country by displaying matchless combat skills in the battlefield but also registers a significant presence in sectors of peace and brotherhood,'' Dr Jakhar said.
The EME Corps' Major-General V K Dutta informed that the Games were introduced on the 50th anniversary of the Second World War and India was the first Asian country to lost the games since it inception.
In the 10-km event, the second place was taken by Sunil Kurian while Laxminarayan stood third. Similarly, the second and third positions were bagged by Jitesh Kumar and P J Vora respectively in the 5-km event. A special prize was given to Master Michael who participated in the 10-km run.
State Finance Minister Raghavji flagged off the run in the morning from the Old Vidhan Sabha. Army personnel, ex-servicemen, women, youth and children all took part inlarge numbers, the release added.
