Model School Jalanhdar, SGP School Bhaini Sahib win

Jalandhar, Jan 18 (UNI) Visiting Lahore XI tasted a bitter 1-4 defeat against Government Model School Jalandhar in the 3rd All India Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial School Hockey (boys under-17) Tournament here today.

Both teams played well and exhibited classic hockey but the local boys cashed in on the opportunties that came in their way while the Pakistani lads wasted chances.

Jaskaran secured early lead by scoring two consecutive goals in the 6th and 8th minutes while Karanpal and Karanbir later constributed one each.

The lone goal for Lahore XI came in 39th minute through a penalty corner converted by Khram Shahzad.

In another league match Satguru Pratap School Bhaini Sahib defeat Government High School Chandigarh 2-1.

Dilbag Singh and Gurmail Singh scored field goals in the 11th and 13th minute to secure a confortable 2-0 lead before Chandigarh's Deepak Kumar reduced the margin by converting a penalty corner(2-1) in the 65th minute.

A total of 15 teams from different parts of the country and a Pakistani team are participating in the tournament which began at the Burlton Park Surjit Hockey Stadium here on January 14.

Quarterfinal matches will be played tomorrow while the final will be played on January 21.
