Mohammedan Sporting defeat Railway men 3-2
Kolkata, Aug 23 (UNI) Mohammedan Sporting got back to winning ways, defeating Eastern Railway 3-2 in the Calcutta Premier League match at home today.
New recruit, Paul MacJames from Nigeria, who had joined the black-and-white brigade from Dhaka Mohammedan, had a very good debut in Kolkata maidan and played a key role in team's victory.
Sporting, however, did not start well and went a goal down in the 10th minute. Centreback Juber presented the railwaymen with an opportunity as he made a faulty clearance to a Bapi Halder freekick.
Jaidip Bose collected the ball and sent a cross from left which was headed home by Halder.
Sporting equalised in the 25th minute. MacJames initiated the move and chipped the ball inside the box to Mohammad Muneer. The latter's flick-header went to Jyoti Kumar who scored. The goal helped Sporting break the shackles.
MacJames and Basudeb Mondal reigned supreme in the middle-third and chances were created.
They went ahead in the 53rd minute as MacJames scored with a side-volley from a Rajib Ahmed floater. Eastern Railway goalkeeper Kalyan Lodh, however, was sloppy in that case.
Kumar made it 3-1 in the 61st minute when he evaded his markers to head home a Mondal freekick. Then, against the run of play, Eastern Railway reduced the margin in the 80th minute. Sporting defender Danielle handled the ball inside the box and Shantanu Bit scored from the spot.
