Catamarca (Argentina), Jan 14 (PTI) In a tragic turn ofevents, a person has died after a car belonging to a DakarRally participant crashed into his car that was not eveninvolved in the race.
The race participant, Eduardo Amor of Argentina, who wascompeting in the 10th stage of the competition, wasimmediately arrested and now further investigations will takeplace, reported an Argentine news agency DyN.
The victim, identified as a 48-year-old Argentinian, wastaken to a hospital where he later died.
The accident took place shortly after 6am local timeyesterday while the the man was driving his car outsideTinogasta, which is in northern Argentine province ofCatamarca, when the Rally participants moved through.
The Toyota Hilux participant was many hours behind thepack as most of the rest of the Rally participants had alreadycompleted that stage -- between Copiapo, Chile and Chilecito,Argentina -- by Wednesday afternoon, organisers said.
Amor reported the accident to race organisers, who sentan ambulance and a helicopter to the site.
The Dakar rally has been regularly affected by accidents.
In this year''s edition, this was the second death, after anelectrician died last week as he set up a camp for theparticipants.
