MU dethrones Osmania

Mysore, Nov 16 (UNI) Madras University (MU) dethroned defending champions Osmania University with a convincing 3-0 win in the South Zone Inter University Tennis (men) Championship here today.

In the first singles, Md Fariz of MU rallied back brilliantly to beat K H Praveen of Osmania 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, while in the doubles Vijaya Sundar/Tariq Yakub pair outbeat A S Suresh Krishna/Praveen 6-2, 6-3.

In the reverse singles Vidya Sundar completed the whitewash with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Suresh Krishna.

In the play off match, Bangalore prevailed over Visvesvaraya Technology University (VTU) 2-1 to take the third spot.

The semi-finalists MU, Osmania, Bangalore and VTU qualified for the 'All India Inter-University Championship' at Udaipur from December 27.
