Mueller claims Golden Boot, best young player

Johannesburg, Jul 12: 20-year-old Thomas Mueller went a long way from being seen as a ball boy by the Argentine coach Diego Maradona, to claiming the Golden Boot award in FIFA World Cup 2010.

The German striker not only won the Golden Boot award for being the top scorer at the 2010 World cup but also won the Best Young Player of the tournament title.

The Golden Boot to Mueller is especially significant as his five goal tally stood in line with finalists such as David Villa and Wesley Sneijder of the Netherlands.

With this award, the Bayern Munich ace becomes the worthy successor of his compatriot Miroslav Klose, who sadly missed a chance to enter the record books in 2010 as his back injury kept him away from over-writing the 15 World Cup goal tally of Brazil's Ronaldo by a ssingle goal margin.

FIFA World Cup 2010 has been an amazing journey for Mueller, who shot up to the status of a super star in South Africa considering that 12 months ago he was playing in the German third division.

He also spearheaded a new generation of players including Mesut Oezil, Sami Khedira, Jerome Boateng and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who collectively led to the team being dubbed "young" Germany in the tournament.

With all the players in their twenties during the World Cup 2010, the world awaits to see how the youngsters would have grown for the next World Cup.

Germany on Saturday, Jul 10 defeated worthy opponents Uruguay in the battle for bronze 3-2 and walked off the field while the world heard quietly them say 'We'll be back'.
