Mukesh stretches his lead to eight strokes on day three of TN Open

Chennai, August 29 (UNI) Ace golfer Mukesh Kumar's awesome six under 64 in round three of the Tamil Nadu Open Golf Championship helped him establish a mammoth eight-stroke lead ahead of the final round tomorrow.

Mukesh (67, 63, 64) now have a firing total of 16 under 194 to lead the Championship. He consolidated his overnight three stroke lead with the help of six birdies at the Madras Gymkhana Club's course here today.

The three time winner on the PGTI in the 2007-08 season, made birdies on the first, third, fourth, eighth, 12th and 14th.

''My putting was good from the very first hole today. I made a number of couple of long putts. If I had not missed a couple of short putts for birdie on the ninth and 10th it would have been a perfect round for me,'' said Mukesh after his bogey-free 64.

''I must now continue to play the way I have played over the last three days in order to win,'' he added.

Shankar Das (67, 69, 66) shot a brilliant four under 66 to end round three in tied second at eight under 202.

C Muniyappa (70, 65, 67) shares the second place with Shankar.

His third round 67 featured an eagle on the 12th, birdies on the third, sixth, seventh and bogeys on the first and eighth.

Sanjay Kumar (70, 68, 65), Vijay Kumar (69, 67, 67) and Rafick Ali Mollah (65, 68, 70) are tied fourth at seven under 203.

Ashok Kumar's (71, 67, 68) total reads four under 206. He is tied ninth heading into the final round. Chennai's Sandeep Syal (68, 71, 69) has a total of two under 208 and is currently placed 19th.

Rahul Ganapathy (72, 68, 69) is one stroke behind Syal in tied 20th place. Harendra Gupta (72, 65, 72) is also tied 20th at one under 209.

Tarun Veeraraghavan (72, 75, 71) of Chennai is the highest placed amateur (tied 50th) at eight over 218.
