Mumbai batsmen deny outright victory to Saurashtra

Rajkot, Nov 26 (UNI) A face saving knock by Mumbai's Ramesh Powar (23 not out) denied Saurashtra an outright victory as the four-day super league Ranji match ended in a draw on the final day at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium here today.

Powar, who came at number seven, played a calm and cool innings, withstanding both medium pacers and spinners.

He and Vinayak Samant together faced twenty overs and added 31 runs for the seventh wicket stand before the latter was dismissed by medium pacer Sandeep Jobanputra in 83rd over. Samant made 11 runs after facing 50 deliveries.

Powar took his first run after facing 80 deliveries and the Host's bowlers failed to grab his wicket. Jaydev Shah used medium pacers and spinners in rotation to dislodge him, but failed to get the desired result. Powar today played a sensible innings and saved his team from an outright defeat at the hands of Saurashtra.

He and Usman Malvi remained not out on 23 and 03 runs respectively as Mumbai were 157 for seven at the close of the day.

Saurashtra has to satisfied with three points while Mumbai managed to get one point from this match.
