Mumbai outplays Barkhatullah varsity 4-0, leads table

Panaji, Nov 21 (UNI) A fine brace by Cleophas Fernandes enabled defending champions Mumbai University to outplay Barkhatullah Univesity of Bhopal 4-0 and gained full points in the West Zone Inter-University Football championship, organised by Goa University, here today.

After a barren first-half, Mumbai shot into the lead in the 48th minute through Francisco Salim. While Kirk D'Souza consolidated their lead scoring second goal in the 68th minute, two more goals by Cleophas Fernandes for the team in the 73rd and 90th minutes sealed the fate of Barkatullah University.

In another match, LNIPE of Gwaliar edged out host Goa by a solitary goal. This was the host's second defeat in a row. The all important goal for Gwalior came in the 81st minute through Rohit B, which ultimately turned out to be the match winner.

The reigning champions Mumbai University are presently leading the table with two wins. They are followed by Gwalior at the second position with a win and a draw.
