Mumbai Suburban emerges supreme

Mumbai, Feb 29 (UNI) The Mumbai Suburban team today amassed 307 points to emerge as the district champion in the Maharashtra State Sub Junior Athletic Championships 2008, held at the Andheri Sports Complex here.

Thane finished in the second position with 290 points, while Mumbai City were third with 217 points.

Joshua Barretto of Mumbai Suburban clinched the individual boys' under-14 championship, while Varun Taneja of Thane claimed the boys' under-12 honours.

Nirmayee Prabhu of Mumbai City was the girls' under-14 individual champion, while Akshaya Iyyer of Thane bagged the girls' under-12 title.

Little Vishakha Upadhayay of Mumbai Suburban was the girls' under-8 champion after helping herself to an impressive three gold medals.

Kshitij Bhoite of Thane won the boys under-10 100m in 13.5 secs, while Yash Zad and Anand Patel of Mumbai Suburban finished second and third respectively, in a keen contest.

Vishakha Upadhayay clinched her third gold of the meet after winning the girls under-8 100m in 16.3 secs.

Best District: 1 Mumbai Suburban (307 pts), 2 Thane (290 pts), 3 Mumbai City (217).
