Mumbai Ultimate League Week 2: Dragons & Hawks Set for Showdown as Playoff Race Heats Up at Wings Arena

Mumbai Ultimate League Week 2: After a thunderous opening weekend that lit up the Wings Arena in Bandra, the Refex Mumbai Ultimate League (MUL) Season 5, presented by Off-Season Ultimate (OSU), is primed for another electrifying chapter as it rolls into Week 2.

The stakes are sky-high, with teams looking to tighten their grip on the table – or claw their way back into contention – as the action resumes on April 19 and 20. If the first week was anything to go by, fans are in for a rollercoaster.

Mumbai Ultimate League Week 2 Dragons amp amp Hawks Set for Showdown as Playoff Race Heats Up at Wings Arena

Dancing Dragons blazed through their opening day, posting two emphatic wins and boasting a whopping +14 goal difference. Their fluid play, relentless pace, and on-field chemistry made them instant favourites. Tied on points but trailing slightly on goal difference, Desi Hawks also emerged unscathed from their first outings. With both sides unbeaten, their clash this weekend promises fireworks.

Trailing behind the frontrunners, Bumbai Bantais sit in third with 3 points – a team with flair and grit but needing consistency. Reborn Fire and The Afterburners each have a point to their names, showing glimpses of promise but hungry for wins. Meanwhile, Bombay Rhinos, yet to find their footing, will be desperate to change their narrative in Week 2.

Day 2: Crunch Time Beckons

Saturday kicks off with The Afterburners locking horns with Bumbai Bantais on Field 1 – a contest that could very well define mid-table dynamics. Simultaneously, on Field 2, Reborn Fire are thrown into the lion’s den as they take on the red-hot Dancing Dragons.

For the Dragons, this is only the beginning of a doubleheader challenge. Later in the evening, they face fellow unbeaten side Desi Hawks in what could be a decisive battle for top-table supremacy. Expect intensity, intricate plays, and no holds barred.

The Bombay Rhinos, meanwhile, face Afterburners and Reborn Fire in their back-to-back ties. Having drawn blanks so far, the Rhinos will need more than just spirit – they’ll need goals, grit, and a little bit of magic.

Desi Hawks, not ones to be overshadowed, also have their work cut out. With matches against Dancing Dragons and Bumbai Bantais on their cards, their unbeaten streak is at serious risk – but also offers a chance to go top.

“Week 2 is where we separate the pretenders from the contenders.”

Day 3: The Pressure Cooker

Come Sunday, the intensity only dials up. The day begins with Desi Hawks clashing with Reborn Fire on Field 1 – a tricky fixture with both sides having plenty to prove. On Field 2, the Bumbai Bantais will hope to assert dominance over a struggling Bombay Rhinos side.

In the next round, Dancing Dragons square off with The Afterburners, a match that could become a goal fest if the Dragons find their rhythm. Meanwhile, Bumbai Bantais will also face Reborn Fire – a contest crucial to both teams’ aspirations for a playoff berth.

But it's the final fixtures of Week 2 that may well steal the headlines. On Field 1, Afterburners meet Bombay Rhinos – a bottom-table tussle with potential for redemption. But all eyes will surely be on Field 2, where the Dragons meet the Hawks once again in what could be a prelude to the season's grand finale.

“This is not just about points anymore – it's about making a statement,” said a MUL spokesperson. “Every throw, every cut, every block counts. Week 2 is where the championship mindset kicks in.”

What’s at Stake?

With qualification spots for the playoffs on the line, no team can afford to take the foot off the pedal. A single win – or loss – could completely rejig the standings. For top dogs Dancing Dragons and Desi Hawks, Week 2 offers a chance to assert dominance. For teams like Bumbai Bantais, it’s about consolidation. And for the bottom half, it's now or never.

The format ensures that action is non-stop, with six matches across two fields each day, running from 4:00 PM through to 8:15 PM. The high-paced scheduling keeps fans on edge, and the teams on their toes.

The Bigger Picture

Now in its fifth season, the Refex Mumbai Ultimate League has become the beating heart of India’s burgeoning ultimate frisbee scene. Run on weekends from April 13 to May 4, 2025, MUL continues to redefine the sport’s appeal – blending athleticism, strategy, and entertainment in a way that few leagues manage.

At the helm of this movement is Off-Season Ultimate (OSU), the powerhouse trio of Rishabh Kishore, Tahir Siddiqui, and Maksood Chaudhary, whose tireless efforts have elevated ultimate frisbee from the grassroots to grand arenas.

“We want to show people that ultimate is more than just a sport – it’s a community, a culture, a movement,” said OSU co-founder Rishabh Kishore. And with packed stands, thrilling finishes, and wall-to-wall talent, Week 2 is set to take that vision to the next level.

Whether you're a seasoned follower or a curious newcomer, this weekend at Wings Arena promises unmissable action, pulsating drama, and a healthy dose of sporting theatre. Get ready, Mumbai – the disc is in the air, and it’s coming in hot.
