Nagaland Governor, CM greet Bindra, announce award

Kohima, Aug 12 (UNI) Celebrating India's first individual Gold Medal in Beijing Olympics, Nagaland Governor K Sankaranarayanan congratulated Abhinav Bindra for winning the top position in the 10 metres Air Rifle Shooting event.

In his congratulatory message to Bindra, the Governor said the ace shooter had realised the dreams of a billion Indians and his victory was the most remarkable achievement by any Indian sportsperson in the history of the Olympics.

The Governor said Mr Bindra was a true role model for all the sportspersons in the history of the nation and wished that he would continue to bring laurels not only to himself but also for the entire nation.

In a separate message, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also congratulated Bindra for his achievement in the ongoing Beijing Olympics.

In a letter to president of the Indian Olympic Association Suresh Kalmadi, Mr Rio conveyed his congratulations to Mr Bindra, whose achievement brought pride to millions of Indians throughout the world.

He also announced an award of Rs two lakh for Abhinav Bindra as a token of appreciation for his achievement.
