National Games athletes exceed village capacity: Asom Govt

Guwahati, Feb 1 (UNI) The Asom Government today announced a rise in the number of athletes participating in the National Games this year than earlier editions.

Addressing the media here, government spokesman and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said more than 9700 athletes and officials had so far confirmed their participation whereas the Games village had capacity for only 5000 people.

''We are trying to accommodate the Games officials in other parts of the village since they are more than 1700 this year,'' he said.

''It is the media which has been giving a negative picture of everything about the Games. However, the fact remains that we are ready to hold the Games,'' he said.
