Rourkela, Jan 17 (UNI) Orissa Works and Housing Minister A U Singh Deo today asked the entrepreneurs setting up industries in the state to provide one per cent of their profit for the promotion of sports and games in the state.
Inaugurating the second National Inter School Games and Sports Competition (2007-08) at Ispat Stadium here, Mr Singh Deo said in developed countries the private entrepreneurs spent a major portion of their profit for promotion of sports.
About 750 participants comprising 375 boys and 333 girls from ten states-Assam, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu and host Orissa would vie for medals in the three day event.
Organisers of the event said a sum of Rs 25 lakh would be spent for the programme. While the Sports Authority of India has donated Rs 10 lakh, the state government has chipped in Rs 5 lakh, the district administration Rs 8 lakh and the rest was contributed by the BHP Billton.
Orissa Sports Minister Debashis Nayak also graced the occasion.
