Srinagar, Dec 26: Hosting 5th National winter games in February 2008, the Jammu and Kashmir government is taking measures to make the Gulmarg Golf Course a world class circuit and upgrade Pahalgam Golf Course to 18 from present nine holes.
The state will host fifth National Winter Games on Gulmarg slopes and will also hold international Skiing race in February and March next year, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig said.
He said the government has upgraded the Pahalgam Golf Course to 18 holes from the present nine holes to attract more golfers from different parts of the country. He said measures are underway to make the Gulmarg Golf Course a world class circuit.
The deputy Chief Minister said the government has set up various avenues in adventure tourism which include up-gradation of infrastructure at Gulmarg and installation of ski-lift at Kangdoori.
Regarding promotion of Water Sports, he said the government will set-up Water Sports Centre at Nigeen lake, procuring equipment like high speed boats, tents and rafts.
The tourism department is organising rafting at Pahalgam, Ladakh, Sonamarg and Gurez, Mr Baigh said. The National Rafting Championship was also held in Leh this year.
